OptiQuant® CMVtc Calibration Panel

The OptiQuant® CMVtc DNA Calibration Panel is intended for use as a standard to assess the performance of quantitative and qualitative molecular diagnostic test procedures for the determination of human cytomegalovirus (CMV) DNA. This product is For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures.

Summary and Explanation

Calibration of measurement procedures with reference materials that are not commutable can cause poorer, rather than improved, agreement of results among methods for native clinical samples.
- Greg Miller et al. Clinical Chemistry 52, No. 4, 2006

The OptiQuant CMVtc DNA Calibration Panel was designed to help ensure that results for patients’ samples will be comparable independent of the medical laboratory that produced the results. A scientific study showed this panel behaves like true clinical CMV EDTA plasma specimen. This important property is called commutability. Using QC materials that are not commutable can negatively impact the agreement of results for clinical specimens. Use of a commutable QC standard enables labs to compare test results in a meaningful way, regardless of the lab that produced the results. This is particularly important when many different, non-standardized test methods are routinely used.

The OptiQuant CMVtc Calibration Panel is manufactured to provide a metrological traceable value and uncertainty according to ISO Standard 17511. OptiQuant CMVtc DNA Calibration Panel members contain intact, encapsulated viral particles which allows for verification of an effective viral DNA extraction procedure.

The OptiQuant CMVtc DNA Calibration Panel meets the need for highly standardized and controlled CMV viral load testing in human EDTA plasma by helping to ensure that nucleic acid testing procedures for CMV DNA are properly validated.  In addition, the panel is useful for operator training.

Product Description

The OptiQuant CMVtc DNA Calibration Panel contains the human CMV strain AD169. Panel members were produced by making quantitative dilutions of CMV into normal human EDTA plasma.  The plasma was tested and found to be non-reactive for CMV DNA, HCV RNA, HBV DNA, and HIV-1 RNA, as well as non-reactive for antibodies to HIV-1 and HIV-2, and HBsAg.
